The Neumann University Roller Hockey Club's hopes of winning three consecutive National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) Championships ending with a 4-3 overtime loss to the University of California-Santa Barbara in the tournament's quarterfinal round on Friday, April 7.
Neumann started the postseason a bit sluggish as they dropped their first two games in pool play to University of Missouri-St. Louis and Farmingdale, respectively, before finally finding some consistent scoring in a 5-1 victory over Grand Valley State University in the pool finale.
The win put the club as the third seed in Pool A which resulted in a matchup versus Miami University (OH) on Friday, April 7. Neumann came out firing and earned a 10-2 win to advance to battle UC Santa Barbara in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. The Knights held a 3-1 lead early in the second period, but UCSB connected on two consecutive power-play goals to force the extra stanza. Unfortunately, it was the Gauchos that found the back of the net, ending Neumann's chances on back-to-back-to-back titles.
