ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team picked up an exciting win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Marywood University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-4.
Zac Lazzaro,
Jordan Collins and
Billy Swontek were the heroes for Neumann on the afternoon, each winning at both singles and doubles.
In a crucial conference match that went back and forth all afternoon, Neumann opened up the day taking two of the three doubles matches. At second doubles, Lazzaro and Collins cruised to a comfortable 8-2 win, while Swontek and
Andrew Wilbraham squeaked out a tight 9-7 win at third doubles.
As the contest moved to singles, Marywood tied the match up by winning at the first and third positions. Neumann picked up wins at second and fourth singles through Lazzarro (6-4, 6-3) and Collins (6-0, 6-1) to regain the lead, but Marywood tied up the score with a win at fifth singles.
With the match tied 4-4, the contest would come down to a winner take all sixth singles matchup. With the competition hanging in the balance, Swontek came up clutch for the Knights. The junior won in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 6-2) to give Neumann a much needed win in the CSAC standings.
Neumann (3-3, 3-1 CSAC) is right back in action tomorrow with another CSAC contest versus Keystone College. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
