On an unusually warm day for September, the Neumann University Men's Rugby Club heated up the scoreboard topping Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) rival Albright, 48-31. Playing their home opener before an enthusiastic crowd, the Knights opened the scoring when a Leron Dudley tackle forced loose the ball setting up a Liam Ruddy try. Emerson Phillips notched the first of his five conversions on the day along with a penalty kick for a thirteen point day. John McNichol, Ryan Waters, and Nick Fallows all added first half trys for a 26-14 halftime lead.
The second half also saw Fallows add his second try along with two Tino D'Angelo trys and the Phillips penalty kick for the 48-31 final. Four freshmen, AJ DelleMonache, Miles Howard, Gaetano Quintiliani, and Pat Howard all saw time to help the Knights to their first league win in the newly formed MARC Gold Division. Newcomers Alex Barraclough and Dave Mattern also pitched in, providing much needed fresh legs for the boys in blue on a sweltering day.
Neumann will return to action at La Salle University on Sunday, September 24; kick-off is slated for 1:00pm.
