ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University won an exciting back and forth game, 72-63, against Albright College on Tuesday evening.
Nafisa Saunders tallied a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds.
Minika Glenn scored 14 points and six assists while
Mariah Maciejewski added 12 points.
Neumann started hot and netted the first 12 points of the game over the first four minutes. The Knights held a 22-13 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Lions as they battled back and tie the game with 2:38 left before halftime at 27. The teams traded baskets and Albright wrapped up the first half with two free throws to take a 34-31 lead into the break.
Albright held the advantage throughout the third quarter, leading by as many as eight, 47-39. The Lions took a 51-47 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter featured three lead changes and three tied scores. The final tie came with 3:04 left on the clock and the score knotted at 63.
Maia Bryson hit a layup to put Neumann in the lead for good and the Knights held the Lions off the board for the rest of regulation. Maciekewski hit a layup and Saunders went 5-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Neumann (2-0) will host the Neumann Tip-off Tournament this weekend. The Knights will face Hood College in the first game on Saturday. Rutgers-Camden and Western New England will tip-off in the second contest on Saturday.
