ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball will face Cabrini University on Saturday for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 PM.
Neumann went 13-3 in conference action and is the No. 3 seed for the postseason. The Knights are 20-7 overall. Cabrini was a perfect 16-0 for the No. 1 slot. The Cavaliers are currently 24-2 overall.
This is the fourth appearance in the CSAC Championship for the Knights and the second time facing Cabrini. Neumann hosted and won the CSAC title in its first two appearances in 2009-10 (75-58 vs. Gwynedd Mercy) and 2010-11 (66-60 vs. Immaculata). The Knights were last in the Championship game in 2015-16 when it fell to Cabrini 74-64 on the road.
The road to the Championship began on Monday with an exciting 99-98 overtime win against Rosemont. CSAC Player of the Year
Nafisa Saunders hit the game-winner with three seconds left in overtime.
Minika Glenn netted 37 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Kristen Denoncour added 21 points and 16 rebounds. Saunders finished with 20 points.
On Wednesday in the semi-finals, the Knights defeated the Griffins 73-64.
Saunders netted 27 points to lead the Knights.
Shauntel Williams added 15 points.
Denoncour grabbed 10 rebounds and netted nine points.
For the season, the Knights are being led by Saunders, who is averaging 18.9 points per game. Glenn adds 13.5.
Lauren Legler leads the team in three-pointers, making 43 this season.
During the regular season, Cabrini took both contests. In the first game, the Cavaliers edged the Knights 60-54. Saunders led the team with 22 points while Legler added 10 points. Back at the Mirenda Center, Cabrini took the game 69-60. Glenn netted 20 points and 11 rebounds. Legler added 12 and Saunders tallied 11.
The winner on Saturday will receive the CSAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday.
