RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled at Cabrini University for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship, but came up just short in a 71-64 final on Saturday evening.
 
Nafisa Saunders led the Knights with 28 points. Minika Glenn added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The first quarter was rather quiet with four tied scores, including 9-9 with 1:46 on the clock. Two free throws by the Cavaliers gave them an 11-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.
 
Cabrini out in the second quarter and went on a 10-3 run for a 21-12 advantage. A couple three-pointers gave the Cavilers a few 12 point leads in the quarter. Glenn capped the scoring for the half and Cabrini took a 31-22 lead at the break.
 
With the Cavaliers leading 47-38 with 3:37 left in the third quarter, the Knights started to make a move. Over the rest of the quarter, Neumann went on a 12-2 run. A layup by Saunders just before the buzzer put the Knights up 50-49 heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
Each team went on small runs in the final quarter, but neither could get the run to take control of the game. With 1:39 remaining in regulation, a three-pointer by Saunders made it just a two-point Cavalier lead, 66-64. The Knights could not get another basket to fall and key free throws by Cabrini down the stretch sealed the win for the Cavaliers.
 
Neumann (20-8) will now wait for the ECAC announcement to be made on Monday to see if its season will continue.
