CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of games on Thursday. In the first game, the Knights fell to Alma College 7-4. In the second game, Neumann defeated Saint Mary's University (Minn.) 7-2.
Against Alma, Neumann scored three unearned runs in the top of the first. The Scots answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Knights plated one run in the third inning as
Kierstin Fallers walked and came around to score on a single by
Brooke Figiel.
Taylor Naman went 6.0 innings in the circle. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits.
In the 7-2 win over Saint Mary's,
Jen Sieminski went 7.0 innings. The sophomore allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four.
Kate Korte' continued her hot start as she was 3-for-4 with four RBI. The first four batters in the lineup, Grace Sparrazza,
Kristina Del Gaiso,
Rachel Albertson and
Julia Cox, all had two hits as the Knights finished with 12 in the game.
After going down 1-0 after the top of the first, Del Gaiso scored on a double by Cox to tie the game. The Knights went up 2-1 in the third as Cox scored on a double by Korte'. Neumann put three runs on the board in the fifth inning as the first five batters reached base. Korte' knocked in two more runs in the sixth inning for insurance.
Neumann (2-3) will wrap up its spring break schedule tomorrow with a pair of games. The Knights will face Rose-Hulman at 9:00 AM followed by a rematch with Alma at 11:30 AM.
