ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University in the final two Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games of the regular season on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 15-0 and 13-0, both in five innings.
After the game, Neumann honored its seniors,
Kara Grogan and
Zina Naughton as well as junior
Julia Cox, who will be graduating in December.
In the first game, Grogan went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in the game. Cox went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Taylor Naman picked up the win, allowing just one hit in five innings and struck out six.
Neumann scored two unearned runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning to take an early lead. The Knights sent 11 batters to the plate in the third and fourth innings as they scored six runs in each frame.
Brooke Figiel and Grogan each knocked in a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
In the second game,
Jen Sieminski started the game and went the first two innings and struck out three.
Julia Casson picked up the win, going two innings and striking out three. Cox pitched the fifth inning and struck out a pair.
Neumann scored four runs in the second inning as it sent nine batter to the plate. In the third inning,
Carli Trice hit a two-run double as part of a seven run inning. In the fourth,
Bri Lagroteria and Figiel hit back-to-back triples to open the inning. Figiel then scored on a sacrifice fly by
Taylor Sirolli to wrap up the scoring.
Neumann wraps up the regular season 21-14 overall and 17-5 in the CSAC. The Knights will now wait for the rest of the teams to finish conference action to see which seed they will be in the postseason.
