Men's Soccer Rolls Past Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday with a resounding 4-0 victory over Rosemont College on Monday evening.

Four different Knights scored in the win, led by Nick Testa who had a goal and an assist. Marlon Trejo, Matt Sengphachanh and Brady Simon also scored for Neumann, who received a combined shutout in goal from Shane Smith and Danny Lewis.

Eager to brush off the last minute loss on Saturday, Neumann came out fired up to open the game. The Knights outshot Rosemont by a count of 11-3 in the opening half and played in the Ravens end for most of the half. After several near misses, Neumann finally broke through in the 23rd minute when Trejo ripped home his fourth goal of the season from the penalty spot to put the visitors up 1-0.

It would not take the Knights long to double their lead, as Testa scored just 4:39 later to put Neumann up 2-0. Sophomore Mitchel Yeakley made the goal happen by playing a perfect through ball to a streaking Testa after a fantastic run down the left flank that started in the Knights' end. The 2-0 score-line would hold until the halftime break.

Not satisfied with the strong first half, Neumann poured it on in the second stanza. Just 3:48 into the final period pf play, Sengphachanh scored on a breakaway off a feed from Testa to put the Knights up by three. The sophomore forward undressed the Ravens keeper with an excellent fake and fired home into the gaping net to give Neumann a 3-0 lead.

The Knights would cap off the convincing victory with a fourth goal from Simon midway through the half. Sophomore Corey Madigan whipped in a fantastic service from the right wing that Simon banged home to put the visitors up by four. Neumann locked down the fort from there and finished the game by outshooting Rosemont 19-6.

Neumann (4-3-1) returns home Wednesday, September 26th for another non-conference game versus Bryn Athyn College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
