ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team returned to the field after a ten day break with an excellent performance in a 20-5 victory over Rosemont College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Drew Conlon led the Neumann attack with six points on three goals and three assists, while
Colin Blake added five points on three goals and two assists.
Eric Conlon (3 g),
Brett McLaughlin (3 a) and
Chris Bellon (2 g, 1 a) all tallied three point games and goalie
Brendan Risley was strong in net with six saves.
Jack Newswanger also continued his absolute dominance on draws, winning 19-of-21 face-offs to go along with 15 ground balls.
Despite over a week lay-off, the Knights showed no rust in a comprehensive dismantling of their former conference rival Ravens. Neumann raced out to a 4-0 opening quarter lead thanks to stellar play from the freshmen duo of
Drew Conlon and
Brett McLaughlin. After a goal from
T.J. Huboky started the scoring, McLaughlin created two goals in a row from his own end. The defender caused two turnovers in the Neumann end of the field, sprinted up-field with the ball and found Conlon and Blake for the second and third goals respectively. Conlon then used an excellent individual effort at the 2:25 mark to give the Knights a 4-0 lead heading to the second quarter.
As the game moved to the second, Neumann would blow the game wide open. Nine different Knights scored in the period to help the hosts build an insurmountable lead.
Colin Blake led the charge in the quarter for Neumann, recording a goal and two assists in a 9-1 second stanza run for the Knights.
Chris Bellon also played a big part in building the 13-1 halftime lead, as he registered a goal and an assist in the final minute of the quarter.
Kyle Daly put an exclamation point on the dominating opening half by finding the back of net with just two seconds left in the period to put the Knights up by a dozen.
Neumann continued to roll into the third quarter, outscoring the Ravens by a count of 3-1 in the frame to lead 16-2. The hosts received goals from Blake,
Eric Conlon and
Chris Augustine in the quarter as they headed to the fourth leading by 14.
The Knights again added to their advantage in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 18 goals before Rosemont fought back for three late consolation goals. Neumann received tallies from each of the Conlon brothers as well as Bellon and
John McKendry in the frame as they closed out the comfortable 20-5 non-conference win to get back to .500 on the season.
Neumann (4-4) is now finished the non-conference slate of its schedule and will play Atlantic East contests for the remainder of the regular season. The Knights will host Immaculata University in their conference opener next Wednesday, April 3rd at 4:00 PM.
