Men's Lacrosse Wins at Wesley

DOVER, Del. - After a tough loss this past weekend, the Neumann University men's lacrosse team responded in a big way on Wednesday evening, picking up a big 13-5 victory over Wesley College in Atlantic East Conference action.

Drew Conlon was a one-man wrecking crew for the Knights in the win, recording nine points on six goals and three assists. Chris Bellon (3 g, 1 a) chipped in with four points, while Eric Conlon and Brett McLaughlin each added a goal and two assists. Brendan Risley picked up the win in goal with 11 saves and Jack Newswanger continued his dominance on draws, going 17-for-20 on the night.

Eager to avenge their loss on the road at Marymount on Saturday, the Knights started the game strong, opening the contest with a goal from McLaughlin at the 10:11 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Wesley scored to knot the game up at one apiece six minutes later, but as the quarter was about to come to a close Neumann struck again. The visitors scored twice in the final three minutes of the quarter via a goal each from the Conlon brothers to take a 3-1 lead after one.

Neumann's momentum continued into the second stanza, as the team rattled off four more unanswered goals to jump out to a 7-1 advantage. Bellon was the hero in the quarter for the Knights, scoring twice in the period and adding an assist. Wyatt Belotti and Kyle Daly also scores for the visitors, both assisted by Drew Conlon. The Wolverines got a goal back late in the frame, but Neumann held a 7-2 lead heading to halftime.

The final two quarters would be the Drew Conlon show. The freshman attacker played a part in all six goals Neumann scored over the final 30 minutes as he registered five goals and an assist. Each team tallied twice in the third quarter as the game remained somewhat close, but Neumann broke the game wide open in the final frame. The Knights found the back of the net four times in the final 15 minutes compared to just one goal for the Wolverines as they sealed the conference win.

Neumann (7-6, 3-2 Atlantic East) will close out its regular season schedule next Wednesday, April 24th with its final conference contest versus Marywood University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
