ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball swept an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader against Wesley College on Tuesday afternoon as it celebrated senior day. The Knights won game one 9-1 in five innings before winning in walk-off fashion, 7-6, in the night cap.
After the games, the Knights honored its seniors: Jen Leinheiser,
Stephanie Brinker,
Taylor Naman,
Jackie Schneider and
Vickie Schneider.
In the first game, the Wolverines put the first run on the board with a solo homerun in the top of the first. The Knights got the run back in the bottom half as
Grace Sperrazza singled and came around to score on an error.
Neumann then plated six runs in the third inning as 11 batters stepped to the plate. Sperrazza tallied a two-run single in the inning. The Knights added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to the 9-1 final.
Jen Sieminski started the game and went the first four innings for the win. She allowed one run on two hits and struck out six. Naman pitched the fifth inning to wrap up the win. Sperrazza finished the game with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
In the night cap, Neumann scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring. Sperrazza continued her hot streak at the plate as she led off with a double.
Bri Lagroteria singled for runners on the corners.
Kierstin Fallers reached on an error and knocked in Sprrazza. J. Schneider then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lagroteria.
The Wolverines scored a single run in the third. In the home half of the fourth,

Jackie Selby and
Rachel Albertson started the inning with back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. With two outs, Sperrazza stepped to the plate and hit the ball out of the yard for a grand slam and a 6-1 lead.
Wesley was not going to go quietly and scored an unearned run in the sixth and tied the game with four runs in the top of the seventh.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Sperrazza walked and moved to second on a sac bunt by Lagroteria. The Wolverines committed an error and Sperrazza moved to third while Lagroteria was safe a first. Fallers hit a fielders choice to shortstop that loaded the bases. J. Schneider then hit a sharp single to second base to score Sperrazza and win the game.
Naman went the first three innings in the no decision from the circle. She allowed one run on five hits.
Nicole Wisser got the win in relief, going the final four innings. She allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits. Sperrazza again tallied three hits in the game, knocked in four and scored three.
Neumann wraps up the regular season 24-12 overall and 9-1 in the Atlantic East. The Knights will be the No. 1 seed in the postseason and will host one of the post season pods this weekend.
