RADNOR, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team saw its three game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, dropping its first Atlantic East Conference contest of the season in a 20-5 loss at Cabrini University.
Eric and
Drew Conlon carried the offense on the day for the Knights, accounting for four of the team's five goals.
Colin Blake also tallied a goal and an assist for Neumann, while
Brendan Risley made 19 saves in goal in the loss.
Defense would rule the game early, as both teams struggled to score in the opening 15 minutes of play. The Cavaliers got on the board at the 12:56 mark of the frame to take a 1-0 lead, but the score would stay the same until late in the quarter. With under two minutes left in the period, the hosts scored again to double their advantage as the game moved to the second.
Cabrini made it 3-0 early in the second stanza, but the Knights would respond back with two of the next three goals to get right back into the game. Both Conlon brothers found the back of the net for Neumann to bring the score-line back to 4-2 with 5:15 left in the quarter. That would be as close as the visitors would get on the day however, as the Cavaliers answered back with two late goals in the half to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.
Neumann's hopes of fighting back in the conference contest were dashed quickly in the third quarter, as Cabrini scored eight of the nine goals in the period to take a commanding 14-3 lead. Blake was the lone Knight goal scorer in the quarter as the visitors fell behind by 11 moving to the final frame.
Eric Conlon tallied twice in the fourth quarter for Neumann, but Cabrini continued to roll. The Cavaliers tacked on six more goals in the period to cruise to the 20-5 Atlantic East victory.
Neumann (5-5, 1-1 Atlantic East) will look to bounce back next Wednesday, April 10th when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy University. Game time for the pivotal conference matchup is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
