RADNOR, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team saw its conference title dreams dashed on Wednesday evening in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals, dropping a 25-4 result to top-seeded and sixth-ranked Cabrini University.
Eric Conlon led the team on the evening with a pair of goals.
Drew Conlon and
Ryan McNichol also scored for the Knights, while
Brendan Risley,
Hunter Faunce and
Ethan Walter combined for 17 saves in goal.
Things started excellently for the visitors on the evening, as
Eric Conlon scored 1:30 into the contest to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. However it was all Cabrini the rest of the first half. The Cavaliers scored six unanswered first quarter goals to take a 6-1 lead after one, then recorded the only eight goals of the second stanza to take a commanding 14-1 lead into halftime.
The Knights tallied twice in the third quarter via goals from
Ryan McNichol and
Drew Conlon, but again ran into a buzzsaw of the Cabrini attack. The Cavaliers tacked on eight more goals in the period to lead 22-3 after three.
Eric Conlon found the back of the net in the final frame for his second goal of the game, but the hosts sealed the semifinal victory with three more fourth quarter markers to clinch the 25-4 win.
Neumann (9-7) sees its conference season come to an end, but will await word of a possible ECAC tournament bid next week. Please check back to learn more about potential ECAC contests next Monday.
