ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team overcame an early deficit to pick up a 71-48 Atlantic East Conference win over Wesley College on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea Keebler hit five three-pointers for 15 points to lead the Knights.
Jaylin Ortiz hit seven free throws and finished with 14 points.
Terea Hunt added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Lauren Leicht grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Wolverines started the game by netting the first 13 points and keeping the Knights off the board for over seven minutes. Ortiz finally put Neumann on the scoreboard with a free throw with 2:31 on the clock in the first quarter. Hunt followed by going 3-for-4 at the line. Keebler sank the first field goal for the Knights in the final minute of the first quarter. Wesley took an 18-7 lead after 10 minutes.
The Knights opened the second quarter on a 10-1 run to pull within two, 19-17. A three pointer by Keebler with 4:34 left before the half tied the game at 23. The bucket started a 12-0 run for Neumann as it took a 32-23 advantage. Wesley netted the final three points of the half for a 32-26 score at the break.
Wesley connected on the first two baskets of the third quarter to get within two, 30-32, but that was as close as the score would get. Midway through the quarter, the Knights built a double-digit lead, 43-32. Two free throws by
Kortni Taylor put Neumann up 56-40 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Knights continued to add to their lead during the fourth quarter to come away with the 71-48 final.
Neumann (5-10, 1-1 Atlantic East) will hit the road for a conference doubleheader on Wednesday evening. The Knights will head to Marymount with tip-off slated for 6:00 PM.
