GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped a 97-81 decision at Gwynedd Mercy University on Monday evening in an Atlantic East Conference first round contest.
 
Jaylin Ortiz led the way with 25 points for the Knights. Terea Hunt tallied a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Tierra Harris added 10 points.
 
The Griffins came out and scored the first seven points of the contest. The Knights answered with the next 11 points to take an 11-7 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter. Neumann held a 21-16 lead after the first 10 minutes.
 
Neumann scored the first four points of the second quarter for a nine-point lead, 25-16. With the Knights holding an 11-point advantage, 31-20, the Griffins went on a 14-0 run to take a 34-31 lead. Gwynedd Mercy held a 41-38 edge at the break.
 
Over the first half of the third quarter, Gwynedd Mercy built a 13-point advantage, 59-46. The Griffins took an 81-56 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
Throughout the fourth quarter, each team had small runs. The Knights could not chip their way back into lead built in the third quarter and the Griffins came away with the 97-81 win.
 
Neumann finishes its season 7-19.
