ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team battled to a split with Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Falcons took the first game 3-1 while the Knights took the night cap 3-2.
In game one,
Brooke Figiel went 3-for-3 and scored the Neumann run.
Kate Korte' had two hits and an RBI.
Messiah opened the scoring in the first inning. In the bottom of the third, Figiel scored on a triple by Korte' to tie the game at one. The Falcons broke the tie with two runs in the top of the fifth.
Jennifer Sieminski went 7.0 in the circle and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out seven.
In game two, the Falcons hit a lead-off homerun for an early 1-0 lead. Figiel tied the game at one as she scored an unearned run on a single by
Morgan Fitzpatrick.
Jackie Selby broke the tie as she scored in the bottom of the third after Fitzpatrick singled. The ball got away and Selby was able to score.
The Knights added an insurance run in the fourth as
Grace Sperrazza scored on a single by
Kaylee Fiocca.
The Falcons got the tying run to third base in the top of the fifth, but
Nicole Wisser was able to get the final two outs before the game was called due to darkness.
Wisser went 5.0 innings for the win. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five.
Neumann (6-6) will host Cedar Crest next Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
