ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled to a 60-54 win over Southern Virginia University on Monday evening.
Tierra Harris led the Knights with 17 points, including going 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Dymond Collins netted 15 points and
Jaylin Ortiz added 14 points.
The first quarter featured three lead changes and two tied scores. Southern Virginia held a 15-10 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Down by six midway through the second quarter, Neumann netted the final nine points of the half to take a 25-22 lead into the break.
The Knights built their lead to as many as six in the third quarter, but Southern Virginia stayed within striking distance getting to within one, 37-36, heading into the final 10 minutes.
Southern Virginia scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to take a one-point lead. Neumann answered with eight straight points, including two three-pointers by Ortiz, for a 45-38 advantage.
With 1:14 left in regulation, the margin was back to one, 53-52. With 27 seconds remaining,
Kiara Stovall hit two free throws to extend the lead back to three. Southern Virginia hit a layup and then
Lauren Leicht went 1-for-2 from the line. In the final four seconds, Harris went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the 60-54 win.
Neumann (2-2) will host Lancaster Bible on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
