RADNOR, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team could not keep pace with defending national champion Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 23-3 in Atlantic East Conference action.
Drew Conlon played a part in all three Neumann goals on the day with two tallies and an assist.
Justice Brovero also scored for the Knights, who received 13 combined saves from the pair of
Brendan Risley and
Jake Marchiafava.
Looking to assert its conference dominance early on in the contest, Cabrini wasted no time putting the Knights into a huge hole. Neumann hung tough in the opening minutes of the quarter, but the Cavaliers broke the game wide open midway through the first frame. Already up 4-0, the hosts blitzed the Knights for eight more markers in the final 5:26 of the period to jump out to an insurmountable 12-0 lead after one.
Cabrini would tack on two more goals to start the second stanza before the Knights could finally crack the scoreboard with a Conlon tally at the 10:56 mark to make it 14-1. Neumann would get two more goals in the period as Brovero and Conlon scored late in the frame, but five more scores from the Cavaliers made it 19-3 in favor of the hosts heading to halftime.
The Knights played much better defense in the second half, but still could not get their offense into gear. Despite allowing just one goal to Cabrini in the third quarter, Neumann could not find the back of the net as the game moved to the fourth with the hosts leading 20-3.
The Cavaliers continued to stymie the visitors in the fourth, again shutting the Knights out to close out the contest. Cabrini added three more goals to their total in the quarter, finishing off the conference matchup with a 23-3 victory.
Neumann (4-3, 3-2 Atlantic East) will look to shake off the loss before its final regular season game next Wednesday, April 21st versus Marywood University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM in Aston.
