DOVER, Del. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team stayed unbeaten in Atlantic East Conference play with a win at Wesley College on Wednesday, picking up a comfortable 14-3 decision. With the win, head coach
Kyle Gardner became the program's all-time leader in wins with 28.
Wyatt Belotti paced the Neumann attack in the win, picking up a hat trick on the afternoon.
Drew Conlon (2 g),
Colin Blake (1 g, 1 a),
Brett McLaughlin (2 g) and
Max Nice (2 g) all recorded multi-point games, while
Brendan Risley stopped four shots to earn the win in net.
The Knights wasted no time asserting themselves in the opening quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to open the game with a 4-0 lead by the 7:28 mark of the first frame. Neumann received goals from four different scorers, as McLaughin and Conlon scored in the first five minutes of the period, followed by tallies from Blake and Nice seven seconds apart midway through the frame. Wesley tried their best to keep pace though, fighting back with three straight goals of their own to end the quarter and cut the Neumann lead to 4-3 after one.
That would be as close as the Wolverines would get however, as the Knights shut out the hosts for the remainder of the game thanks to some excellent team defense and a quality goaltending performance from Risley. Neumann kept things consistent in the second stanza, piling on four more markers to jump out to an 8-3 lead at the halftime break. Conlon and McLaughlin each picked up their second goals of the afternoon in the period, while Belotti and
Emmett Wexler capped off the first half scoring.
With a stifling defense rolling along, Neumann coasted in the second half. The Knights picked up the only two goals of the third quarter from Nice and Belotti to take a 10-3 lead after three, then put an exclamation mark on the victory with four more goals in the final frame. Belotti capped off his stellar day with his hat trick goal to open the fourth quarter, followed by goals from
Justice Brovero,
Vincent Corbino and Connor Morris to seal the comfortable 14-3 win.
Neumann (3-1, 2-0 Atlantic East) won't have long to wait for their next game, as the team heads to Marymount University on Saturday, April 10th for another conference contest. Game-time in Arlington is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
