Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Stung by Yellow Jackets

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 3-0 at Randolph Macon College.

Marlon Trejo led the team with three shots on the afternoon, while Seth Walker stopped two shots in the loss.

Looking to win their second consecutive contest to start the season, the Knights would have their work cut out for them playing their second game in three days, while Randolph Macon was fresh playing its first game of the season. Despite their heavy legs, the visitors started strongly in an evenly played first half of play. Neither team created much offensively with the hosts holding a 5-4 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes.

The halftime deadlock would not last long though, as the Yellow Jackets were able to break through with a goal just 1:13 into the second stanza via a penalty kick to make it 1-0 in favor of the hosts. The Knights responded well, playing their best stretch of the game after the opening goal, but despite several good chances they could not put a ball past the Randolph Macon goalkeeper. The game remained tightly contested until the 74th minute when another bad break doubled the trouble for Neumann. A mis-hit clearance from a Knight defender found its way into the back of the net to make it 2-0. The Yellow Jackets would then clinch the win with a third tally with under two minutes left to play to seal the 3-0 victory.

Neumann will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Virginia Wesleyan University at 1:00 PM.
