ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped a 74-59 decision to Salisbury University on Wednesday in its final non-conference contest of the regular season.
Tierra Harris led the Knights with a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Allyson Wills netted 13 points and
Terea Hunt added 10.
The first quarter remained close, and the teams were knotted at nine with 3:50 on the clock. After a scoreless two-and-a-half minutes, a layup by
Madison Stewart gave Neumann an 11-9 lead with 1:16 left in the first. Salisbury hit a free throw and a three-pointer before the buzzer to take a 13-11 lead after one quarter.
A layup by Stewart to open the second quarter started a 7-0 run for the Knights as they took an 18-13 lead. Neumann continued to hold a slight lead until Salisbury tied the game at 25 with 2:14 left before halftime. The Seagulls took a 27-25 lead in the final minute, but Wills hit a three-pointer and then a layup for a 30-27 Knights lead at the break.
Tied at 34 with 6:01 on the clock in the third quarter, Salisbury went on a 14-1 run over the next three minutes to take a 48-35 lead. The Seagulls ended up scoring 30 points in the third and took a 57-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
Salisbury held its double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to come away with the 74-59 win.
Neumann (7-11) is back into conference action Saturday and will head to Cabrini for a rematch of Monday night's game. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM as part one of the doubleheader with the men.
