ASTON, Pa. – Neumann University Director of Athletics and Recreation
Chuck Sack announced the hiring of
Matthew Lawson as the Director of Campus Recreation.
"We are excited to welcome Matt back to campus," stated Sack. "He embodies our core values and will use his passion for Neumann University to revitalize our recreational programs, including intramurals, fitness classes, and club sports."
A graduate of Neumann's sports management program, Lawson was very active in the athletic department during his time on campus. He was a member of the department's student staff with responsibilities ranging from game-day operations to fitness room and front desk attendant, while also serving as the manager and eventually club president of the men's rugby team. Lawson was also one of the founding members of the Club Sports Advisory Council.
The Philadelphia, PA native most recently served as a Recreation Leader with the Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation where he was responsible for training and managing rec center personnel, establishing and maintaining relationships with various community groups, and creating and supervising youth-based programming.
During his undergraduate studies, Lawson held several prominent internships including at Penn State Brandywine where he coordinated two intramural sports leagues, the University of Delaware (property assistant), LaSalle University (corporate sales), Citizens Bank (corporate affairs), and Cardinal O'Hara High School (athletic department).
Lawson's primary responsibilities will include the planning, marketing, and operation of all recreational events and programs including intramurals, club sports, and fitness programs.
