HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a win at Centenary University 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
The game came down to the final five minutes. Down 2-1,
Javier Mejia scored on a hard shot from the top of the box in the 85
th minute.
Chris Siemien tallied the assist on the game-tying goal.
The as time was winding down,
Jake Kuzmick found the back of the net with seven seconds left on the clock to lift the Knights over the Cyclones.
Jon Zubert had the assist on the game-winner.
Most of the first half was scoreless before both teams scored in the final minute.
Matt Ryan opened the scoring off a corner kick for his first goal of his collegiate career.
Alex Pobre assisted on the goal with 26 seconds on the clock.
Then with four seconds left before halftime, Centenary tied the game at one and the teams went into halftime knotted at one.
The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 62
nd minute. In the final 10 minutes of the game, the Knights really stepped up the pressure.
Gianni Smith had two looks at the net, but the Cyclones keeper was there to make the saves. After Mejia tied the game at two, he had another chance at the goal that was stopped. Kuzmick had the final shot of the game, to complete the come-from-behind win.
The Knights outshot the Cyclones 18-11 overall and 10-3 on goal. Each team had seven shots in the first half before Neumann led 11-4 in the second. 18 shots on goal 10 of those shots were on net.
Seth Walker made one save in net for the win.
Neumann (7-7-1, 5-1 Atlantic East) will be the No. 2 seed in the postseason and will host a semifinal game on Tuesday, November 1. The opponent will be decided after the first round games on Saturday.
