ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team defeated Immaculata University 1-0 in an Atlantic East Conference first round game on a rainy Monday evening.
The game's only goal was scored in a showstopping shot in the 29th minute by Caitlin Llewellyn. After a battle for the ball in the corner, Riley Adinolfi got the ball to Llewellyn, who put the ball in the back of the net with a shot from outside the box.
As the game continued, the rain got harder and so did the determination of Immaculata in the second half. The Mighty Macs pushed and pushed with various shots towards the net, out shooting the Knights 7-3 in the second. In the final five minutes of regulation, the Mighty Macs notched three shots and two corner kicks. As the seconds continued to tick off the clock, Immaculata had a great shot what went just wide of a diving Leona Macrina and just wide of the post and out of bounds, keeping the game 1-0.
Macrina made five saves to help keep Immaculata off the board and send the Knights to the semifinals.'
Neumann (8-8-3) will move on to the Atlantic East Semifinals and travel to Cabrini on Wednesday. Action is slated to start at 7:00 PM.
