ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team is the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East postseason and will travel to No. 1 seeded Marywood to compete for the 2022 Atlantic East Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights are 8-8-4 overall and went 4-1-1 in conference action. Marywood is 10-6-2 overall and went 5-0-1 in Atlantic East action.
Neumann defeated Immaculata 1-0 in the first round on Monday evening, 1-0.
Caitlin Llewellyn scored on a pass from
Riley Adinolfi.
Leona Macrina made five saves in net.
Neumann then tied Cabrini 1-1 in the semifinals on Wednesday before advancing on penalty kicks, 4-2.
Liz Purcell scored the Knights' lone goal on their only shot of the contest in the 34
th minute. Macrina made six saves in net and
Lex Navarro stood tall in net during the penalty kicks.
Chloe Britton leads the Knights with six goals this season. Purcell has five goals.
Rebecca Spence has added four goals, including two game-winners. Spence also has a team-high six assists.
Morghan Stiles has also netted four goals.
Macrina has made 17 starts in net for the Knights. In over 1400 minutes in net, the sophomore has a 1.35 goals-against-average and has made 84 saves. Macrina also has four solo shutouts and three combined shutouts with fellow keeper Navarro.
During the regular season, the Knights and Pacers tied at one. Britton scored the goal for the Knights, directly off a corner kick. Macrina made five saves in net to give the Pacers their only non-win in conference play.
The winner of the game on Saturday will be crowned the 2022 Atlantic East Champions and will receive the AQ from the conference to the NCAA Tournament.
