Knights Sink Last Basket for Win

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled to a 61-59 win at Ursinus College on Friday evening to pull back to .500 on the season.
 
Lauren Klieber scored 26 points, including the winning basket in the final seconds, to lead the Knights. Terea Hunt tallied 12 points and six rebounds. Emily DuPont notched nine points.
 
The first quarter was a battle with four lead changes over the first 10 minutes. A tKliber hree-pointer put the Knights up 11-10 and then she added a layup in the final minute for a 13-10 lead after the first quarter.
 
The Bears scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take an 18-13 advantage. Ursinus would hold the lead throughout the rest of the quarter and took a 29-21 lead into halftime.
 
Neumann worked its way into the deficit and with 5:44 on the clock in the third a layup by DuPont gave the Knights a 32-31 edge. The Bears answered with the next eight points. A three-pointer by Hunt broke the run. Hunt sank a layup to end the quarter and pull Neumann to within two, 42-40, heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
A three-pointer by Chelsea Keebler with 6:57 on the clock gave Neumann a 47-46 advantage. The Bears tied the game with a free throw. Klieber netted the next five points to take back the lead. The teams continued to battle back and forth as time was winding down in regulation.
 
Keebler hit another three-pointer with 44 seconds on the clock for a 58-56 edge. Klieber then went 1-for-2 from the line for a three-point advantage. With 19 seconds left, the Bears sank a three to tie the game. Coming out of a timeout, the Knights gave the ball to Klieber, who hit a layup with three seconds left. Ursinus called a timeout and got a shot off before the buzzer, but it didn't go, and Neumann came away with the 61-59 win.
 
Neumann (5-5) will now be off until after Christmas when it travels to Lehman College for the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. The Knights will face William Paterson on December 28 beginning at 12:00 PM.
