Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Continues to Roll in Rout of Utica

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team earned its third win in a row for the second time this season with a wire-to-wire 12-4 victory over visiting Utica University on Wednesday evening in non-conference play.

Eight different Knights scored in the win, led by two-goal performances from Drew Conlon, Mike Kiley, Rich Marshall and Sam Nice. Kyle Daly led the team with seven ground balls, while Jake Marchiafava was excellent in goal with 13 saves in the win.

The opening period of play would start slow with each team feeling things out. Neumann broke through with the game's first goal 6:39 into the quarter as Kiley scored off a feed from Conlon to make it 1-0. The contest appeared to be heading to the second stanza at the same score-line, but a late tally via a wired shot to the top corner of the Utica net from Marshall made it 2-0 Neumann after the first.

The Knights would run away with the matchup in the second. It was a scoring barrage in the frame as the hosts scored six times without reply to blow the game wide open. Kiley and Brett McLaughlin paced the Neumann attack in the quarter with a goal and an assist each, while Conlon scored his 100th career goal during the run. Vincent Corbino, Sam Nice and Wyatt Belotti also scored for the hosts, who took a commanding 8-0 lead to the halftime break.

Neumann continued to roll after halftime, tallying three more markers early in the frame to take an 11-0 lead. Nice, Marshall and Conlon all found the back of the net to put the game completely out of reach. The even bigger story of the day though was the  stellar team defending and goaltending from Marchiafava, as the Knights went almost three quarters without conceding a goal. Utica finally got on the board with 4:39 left in the period to spoil the shutout bid and make it 11-1 heading to the fourth.

With the game out of hand in the final frame, Neumann coasted the rest of the way. Emmett Wexler was the lone goal-scorer for the hosts in the quarter, scoring off a beautiful feed from Kiley at the 5:03 mark of the frame. The Pioneers got three consolation tallies in the period, but it was far too little, too late as the Knights prevailed by a score of 12-4.

Neumann (6-1) will return to action this Saturday, March 19th when it hosts Arcadia University. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
