CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped a pair of games at Widener University on Friday evening. The Pride won the games by scores of 4-3 and 5-1.
In game one, the Knights struck first in the second inning as
Elizabeth Shire doubled in
Taylor Portzline. Shire came around to score on a double by
Vanessa Bowen for a 2-0 lead.
The Pride tied the game at two in the bottom half of the second. The teams remained tied at two until the bottom of the sixth when Widener plated two runs.
The Knights plated a run in the top of the seventh. With two runners on,
Bri Reim hit a sacrifice bunt to score Bowen. Neumann could not get the tying to cross the plate and fell 4-3 in game one.
Emily DuPont started the game in the circle and went 6.0 innings. She allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out three.
Courtney McKenna started game two in the circle and went 2.0 innings. She allowed two runs, one earned, n five hits while striking out a pair.
Ashlynne Scardino went 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three.
Widener took a 1-0 lead after one inning. Neumann tied the game at one in the third as
Christina Ludovico hit an RBI groundout to score Bowen.
The Pride took the lead right back with an unearned run in the home half of the third. Widener plated three more runs in the fourth en route to the 5-1 final
Neumann (4-9) will open Atlantic East action on Monday against Gwynedd Mercy. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2:00 PM.
