Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Clipped by Cougars

DALLAS, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team suffered its second consecutive setback on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 17-9 on the road at Misericordia University in non-conference play.

Rich Marshall (3 g) and Max Nice (2 g) led the offense on the day with multi-goal games. Jake Marchiafava was excellent in goal despite the loss, stopping 18 shots on the day.

Much like Saturday's loss to Arcadia, Neumann got off to another slow start in Wednesday's matchup with the Cougars. Misericordia dominated the opening frame with six unanswered goals, outshooting the Knights by a count of 17-4 to take a 6-0 lead after one period of play.

The visitors found their legs in the second stanza as they tried to work themselves back into the contest. Mike Kiley scored at the 11:52 mark of the period to make it 6-1, but two more Cougar goals midway through the frame built the lead back to 8-1. It would be all Knights the rest of the quarter though, as Neumann used a 3-0 run to cut the lead in half at 8-4 thanks to a pair of goals from Max Nice and a single tally from John Giovinazzo. The game headed to halftime with the same score-line and the Knights carrying all the momentum.

Neumann could not keep that momentum rolling into the third quarter however, as the team conceded the first four goals of the period to fall behind by a score of 12-4. The Knights fought back for another three goal run of their own late in the frame via goals from Marshall, Sam Nice and Wyatt Belotti, but the team still trailed by five goals heading to the fourth with the score 12-7.

Two more goals from the Cougars to start the final frame put the game all but out of reach at 14-7. The Knights did get a pair of goals from Marshall in the period, but it was not enough as Misericordia tacked on three more tallies to win 17-9.

Neumann (6-3) returns to action this Saturday, March 26th for another road non-conference matchup at Lycoming College. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
