RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team wrapped up Atlantic East Conference action with a sweep at Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 6-3 and 8-7.
In game one,
Ashlynne Scardino pitched a complete game for the win. The sophomore allowed three runs on seven hits.
Elizabeth Shire went 4-for-4 at the plate with a homerun and three RBI.
Ashley Leicht was 3-for-3.
Shire knocked in the first run of the game with a single in the top of the second. Shire then scored on a single by
Kristen Pagliaro for a 2-0 lead. The Knights plated two runs in the fourth as
Emily Reid hit a single to knock in Leicht. Pagliaro also scored on an error on the play.
Maddie Tice singled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on the homerun by Shire for a 6-0 Neumann lead. The Cavaliers spoiled the shutout bid with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In game two,
Olivia Ammon started and went the first 1.2 innings.
Emily DuPont picked up her first win, going 5.1 innings in relief and allowing one run on two hits.
The Cavaliers took the 6-0 lead in game two after scoring two in the first and four in the second. With the bases loaded in the top of the third,
Vanessa Bowen hit a two-run single for a 6-2 game. Cabrini added a seventh run in the top of the fourth for a 7-2 score.
To start the top of the seven, Pagliaro and
Bri Reim singled. Reid then knocked in Pagliaro.
Christina Ludovico singled to load the bases.
Taylor Portzline hit an RBI groundout to score Reim. Tice followed with a single to score Reid to make it a 7-5 game.
With two runners on base, Shire stepped up to the plate and hit her second homerun of the afternoon to put the Knights in the lead by an 8-7 score.
The Cavaliers put the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh but could not get the run in and the Knights held on for the 8-7 come-from-behind win.
Neumann (13-23, 6-6 Atlantic East) will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when it heads to Arcadia for a doubleheader under the lights beginning at 6:00 PM.
