ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team begins its quest for a 2022 Atlantic East Conference Championship this Wednesday, April 27
th as it takes on Marywood University in the conference semifinals at 3:30 PM.
The Knights finished the regular season with a 6-2 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in Atlantic East play. Neumann enters the postseason riding high on four straight wins to finish as the second seed in the conference playoffs. Third-seeded Marywood finished the season with a 3-7 overall record and a 2-3 mark in conference play.
Neumann will be hoping to follow a similar script to the last time the two programs met. The Knights were victorious by a count of 6-3 in the prior meeting this season when the two teams met in Scranton on April 16
th. The Knights took home wins at first and third doubles before earning singles wins from
Daniel Bonowski,
Justin McCullen,
Vince Landis and
Joe Troilo.
The Knights have received excellent play all the way through their lineup this season. Bonowski has carried the team at first singles with a 2-3 record in conference play, while
Justin McCullen (3-2) and
Vince Landis (4-1) have played every match at second and third singles respectively.
Anthony Carpinella (1-3) and
Sean Flannery (1-1) have split time at fourth singles and figure to play at four and five singles in the postseason, while
Joe Troilo (4-0) is undefeated in conference play at fifth and sixth singles.
Neumann will look to advance past the Pacers and move on to the Atlantic East Championship on Friday, April 29
th. The winner of the Neumann and Marywood semifinal will take on either Marymount or Cabrini in the finals.
