Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls to Marymount on Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team suffered its first setback in conference play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 15-9 result on senior day to visiting Marymount University in Atlantic East Conference action.

Rich Marshall was the offensive catalyst for Neumann on the afternoon with four goals, while Drew Conlon (2 g, 1 a) and Kyle Daly (1 g, 2 a) added three-point days. Jake Marchiafava was strong in goal in the loss with nine saves.

In a rematch of an Atlantic East Conference semifinal matchup from last season, Marymount was the stronger of the two teams early in the contest. The Saints scored the first three goals of the game before Conlon broke through with Neumann's first goal at the 6:47 mark to make it 3-1. Two more markers from the visitors made it 5-1 late in the period, but a goal from Daly with 1:42 left in the first frame gave the Knights some momentum heading to the second with the score 5-2.

Despite the three goal deficit, Neumann clawed its way back into the contest in the second stanza. After conceding a Marymount goal at 13:03 to bring the score to 6-2, the Knights shut the door the rest of the half, enabling its lethargic offense to get going. The attack did just that in the period, rallying for four unanswered goals to get right back into the game. Marshall book-ended with 4-0 run with a pair of goals, while Conlon and Max Nice also found the back of the net to make it 6-6 moving to the halftime intermission.

Neumann capped off its comeback early in the third quarter by scoring a man-up goal through Marshall just 12 seconds after halftime to take its first lead at 7-6. The advantage would prove to be short-lived though as another 3-0 run from the visitors midway through the frame gave them a 9-7 edge at the 9:25 mark. A Brett McLaughlin goal 25 seconds later brought the score back to 9-8, but that was as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way. Marymount closed the quarter with four unanswered goals, including a back-breaking buzzer-beater as time expired to send the game to the fourth with the score 13-8 in favor of the visitors.

Neumann did everything it could to close the gap in the final frame, but one goal was all the team could manage in the last 15 minutes. Marshall ripped home his fourth goal of the game at 9:48 to cut the lead to 13-9, but the attack went dead silent after that. The Saints then added two tallies late in the quarter to clinch the 15-9 victory.

Neumann (8-5, 1-1 Atlantic East) will look to regroup for a road contest at conference rival Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday, April 13th. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
