ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team was victorious in its Atlantic East Conference first round contest on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Immaculata University by a score of 21-6.
Drew Conlon was the star of the day for Neumann, scoring three goals to break the program record for points in a career.
Mike Kiley and
Emmett Wexler each recorded four goals and an assist, while
Brett McLaughlin (2 g, 1 a),
Sam Nice (2 g, 1 a),
Kyle Daly (1 g, 2 a),
Max Nice (2 g) and
Rich Marshall (1 g, 1 a) all registered multi-point games. Goalie
Jake Marchiafava earned his 11th win of the season in between the pipes with five saves.
Looking for its second win over Immaculata in the last four days, the Knights followed a similar script to Wednesday's rout. Using a balanced scoring attack, Neumann bludgeoned the Mighty Macs with a barrage of offense in the opening 15 minutes of play. The Knights opened the contest with eight unanswered goals to set the tone on the day and kill off the game before it ever really got going. The highlight of the opening quarter came with 30 seconds left, when Conlon rifled a ball past the Immaculata net-minder to put his name in the record books. With the goal, the senior attacker passed Don Seeger for first on the all-time program points list with 219. Kiley also enjoyed a hot first quarter, netting himself a natural hat trick in just 1:52 of game time.
Emmett Wexler and and each of the Nice brothers also scored in the frame as Neumann cruised to the second with an 8-0 lead.
The Knights kept their foot on the pedal in the second stanza, continuing to dominate with five more markers. Immaculata was able to finally get on the board at the 13:40 mark of the frame, but goals from five different Knights in response dug the visitors' hole even deeper. McLaughlin,
Sam Nice, Daly, Conlon and Marshall all scored to move the game to halftime with the score 13-1.
Immaculata finally got its offense going in the third quarter, but it was far too little, too late. The Mighty Macs scored four times in the frame to try to get back into the game, but three Neumann goals kept the visitors down by 11.
Victor Troese, Kiley and Wexler scored as the Knights led 16-5 after three.
With the game in hand in the final frame, the Knights closed things out with five more tallies. Wexler scored a pair in the final 15 minutes, while McLaughlin,
Max Nice and
Wyatt Belotti added solo efforts. Immaculata netted a consolation goal, but the score would finish 21-6 in favor of the hosts.
Neumann (11-7) advances to the Atlantic East Conference semifinals next Wednesday, May 4th at Marymount University. Game time is still to be determined.
