ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team couldn't complete a comeback against Goucher College on Monday morning and fell 5-3.
Eddie Proud tallied a goal and assist for the Knights.
Javier Mejia and
Jake Kuzmick also scored for Neumann.
Carson Metzger made his first collegiate start in net and made three saves.
The Gophers got on the board two minutes into the game when they capitalized on a free kick. Goucher added another goal three minutes later on a corner kick. The Gophers netted a third goal in the first half and took a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Knights came out of the break and held the pace of the game. However, the Gophers were awarded a penalty kick 10 minutes into the half and took a 4-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Neumann was awarded a penalty kick and Proud put the ball in the back of the net to put the Knights on the board. Under two minutes later, Mejia scored off a thrown in from
Gabe Romero for a 4-2 score.
In the 75
th minute, Kuzmick scored off an assist from Proud to pull within one, 4-3. Goucher was able to net an insurance goal in the 84
th minute to seal the 5-3 win.
The Knights outshot the Gophers 27-11 overall and 11-8 on net.
Gianni Smith led Neumann with six shots. Proud and
Jason DiFilippo each added five.
Neumann (1-2) heads to Ursinus on Friday evening beginning at 7:30 PM.
