ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team, after grabbing the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic East Conference tournament, will host the No. 5 seeded Centenary University on Saturday afternoon in a first-round game.
The Knights completed the regular season schedule with an overall record of 6-5-4, and a 2-1-3 conference record. The Cyclones were 5-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference.
Catherine Miller was the leading scorer for Neumann pumping in six goals.
Chloe Britton, who was last year's top goal scorer, followed with five. Newcomer
Ebony Arvelo was right behind with four, and the combination of
Morghan Stiles and
Anna Poehlmann had three each.
Alexis Navarro held down the fort in goal for the Knights, logging over 850 minutes and making 48 saves on her way to a 1.26 goals against average.
Sarah Andreano also played important minutes with a goals against average of 1.14, making 11 saves. The Knights in total had six shutouts during the regular season.
The lone regular season meeting was a high-scoring affair with Neumann picking up a 4-3 road victory. Stiles and
Kyleigh Joniec gave the Knights a 2-0 lead, but the Cyclones roared back to tie the game with a half hour remaining.
Chloe Britton made it a one-goal advantage for Neumann but, again, Centenary responded with an equalizer.
Jaclyn Burmood, in the 82nd minute, would give the Knights the lead for good. Navarro earned the win with five saves.
In the other first round match, No. 3 Cabrini will host No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy. The winners will travel to No. 1 Marywood and No. 2 Marymount on Tuesday for the semifinals. The winners from Wednesday will clash for the 2023 Atlantic East title on Saturday, November 4
th, hosted by the highest seed remaining.
