FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Neumann University men's soccer team took No. 2 University of Mary Washington to overtime before falling 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Despite being outshot 13-2 in the first half, the Knights went into halftime scoreless with the Eagles. Mary Washington did find the back of the net on a cross in the 72
nd mark to take the 1-0 lead. Neumann then started to push forward. After a throw-in by

Gabriel Romero picked the perfect time to score his first collegiate goal and put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game at one in the 92
nd minute.
Just 1:12 into overtime, the Eagles capitalized on another cross to take a 2-1 lead. UMW then tallied an own goal for a 3-1 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes. Late in overtime, the Knights had a shot the went just over the crossbar.
Jake Kuzmick led the Knights with five shots, three coming on net.
Seth Walker made eight saves in net.
Neumann finishes its season 9-5-3 overall and as the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Champion.
