ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer will play for the 2023 Atlantic East Championship on Saturday afternoon against the Cabrini University Cavaliers. The opening kick is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
The Knights have an overall record of 8-4-3 and had a 4-0-2 conference record to clinch the regular season championship, and No. 1 seed. The Cavaliers are the No. 2 thanks to a 3-2-1 conference record. They have an overall record of 7-8-3.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Neumann defeated Marymount in the semifinals, 2-1 in overtime.
Eddie Proud scored during regulation play and
Landon Moroney headed in a Proud corner for the game-winner.
Seth Walker made eight saves to help secure the championship bid.
Jake Kuzmick leads the Neumann offensive effort with seven goals.
Chimdi Ekwem and
Patrick Oliveira are strong off the bench with four goals each.
Alex Pobre and
Jon Zubert round out the multi goal scorers with three each. Walker has the conference's best goals against average with a 1.04, making 27 saves.
Neumann won the lone regular season meeting against Cabrini by a 3-2 margin. Kuzmick, Zubert, and
Luke Mejia had the goals as the Knights roared back from a 2-1 second-half deficit. Walker made three saves in goal.
Not only will the winner of Saturday's game be crowned 2023 Atlantic East Conference Champions, but they will also automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
