MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University dropped their 2023 season opener against Drew University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 14-8.
Brandon Boschi led the Knights with three goals and an assist for four points.
Kyle Daly added a goal and three assists while
Jake Methlie led with eight ground balls.
Jake Marchiafava was strong in net making 17 saves.
Boschi and
Max Nice got the afternoon off on a strong note with the game's first two goals, but Drew rattled off four straight goals of their own to take the lead. Boschi added a man-up goal with four seconds left in the first quarter to pull the Knights within one at the end of 15 minutes.
Although the Rangers scored the first two goals of the second, Neumann responded with two of their own, by Daly and Boschi, making it a 6-5 game with 5:52 remaining in the half. Drew again put together a strong run, closing out the second with three straight goals for a four goal lead at the break.
The first six minutes of the third were quiet until Drew scored to go up 10-5. At the 6:31 mark, the Knights'
Wyatt Belotti and
Emmett Wexler scored 29 seconds apart before the Rangers scored twice more to close the quarter. The final frame went defensive as Drew outscored Neumann 2-1 with
Rich Marshall scoring the lone Neumann goal with a man down.
Neumann(0-1)will be back in action next Saturday afternoon as they head south to take on Virginia Wesleyan University. The opening draw from Virginia Beach is scheduled for 1pm.
