ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped a 66-59 battle to New Jersey City University on Wednesday evening in an ECAC Tournament first round game.
Lauren Klieber finished the season with another double-double: 27 points and 11 rebounds. With those 27 points, Klieber finished the season with 602 points, good for second most in a season.
Terea Hunt tallied 13 points.
Chelsea Keebler netted two three-pointers for six points.
Jacqueline Wardrop handed out six assists.
Klieber started the game with a jumper. NJCU answered with the next 10 points and took a 16-7 lead after the first quarter. One of Keebler's baskets pulled the Knights to within five, 25-19, with 3:13 left before halftime. Klieber then connected on two free throws for a 24-21 score. The Gothic Knights netted two baskets. Hunt tallied the final basket before halftime for a 28-23 score at the break.
Midway through the third, a jumper by
Hannah Asaka tied the game at 33. The teams traded baskets down the stretch and two throws by Klieber pulled the Knights within three, 44-41, heading into the final quarter.
Klieber opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to pull the teams even. The Knights tied the game a couple more times but could not get the go-ahead basket to fall. A three-pointer by Klieber with 3:04 in regulation made it a three-point game, 62-59. Two layups by NJCU sealed the win.
Neumann finishes its season 13-14.
