IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team suffered a close 10-9 loss at the hands of the Mighty Macs from Immaculata University on Wednesday evening.
Wyatt Belotti got the game started offensively with 7:50 left in the first quarter, thanks to a feed from
Kyle Daly. Immaculata picked up the only other goals of the period, including a man-down marker with nine seconds left for a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes. The Mighty Mac extended the lead 40 seconds into the second before Belotti and
Renzo Garone scored 56 seconds apart to know the game at three. Immaculata closed out the half with two straight goals for a 5-3 lead at the break.
The Knights started the third quarter when
Justice Brovero scored 5:08 in. Belotti notched the hat-trick just over a minute later to bring the game equal at five. After the Mighty Macs retook the lead
Sam Shaffer and Belotti grabbed unassisted goal for a 7-6 Neumann lead. Immaculata scored the last two goals of the quarter, including a man-up goal with 32 seconds left for a one goal advantage.
12 seconds into the fourth, Garone tied the game and Daly followed 35 seconds later, on a pass from
Colin McGuire, to retake the lead. The Mighty Macs punched right back with a man-up goal at the 11:28 mark and took the lead back for good moments later. In spite of multiple opportunities on both sides, the last 10 minutes went scoreless.
Belotti finished up with a game-high four goals, on six shots on goal. He added six ground balls. Garone had two goals on four shots on cage, along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Brovero led the defensive effort by causing four turnovers and scooping four ground balls.
Owen Avelar got the start in goal for the Knights and made 13 saves in the loss.
Neumann (4-8, 0-3 Atlantic East) will return to action on Saturday when the Knights host conference rival Gwynedd Mercy University. The game is scheduled for a 4pm start.
