ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 14-5 decision against the Marymount University Saints in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Mike Kiley led the offense for Neumann with two goals.
Renzo Garone also had a two-point game with two assists, adding four ground balls. Defensively,
Alex Rucci caused three turnovers and
Luke Sykes caused two.
Jake Methlie and
Brendan Boschi each scooped up five ground balls as Methlie won 11 of 16 faceoffs.
Owen Avelar made 12 saves in goal for the Knights.
Marymount, the number three seed, came out strong with the game's first goal with 9:47 remaining in the first quarter. They would extend their lead throughout the period, taking a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
3:29 into the second, Kiley got the Knights on the board after a feed from Garone. 15 seconds later,
Dalton Hofmann took a
Sam Nice pass a deposited it home to cut the deficit the two. With the man up,
Emmett Wexler struck for Neumann's third straight goal, pulling within one. The Saints scored twice in 1:05 to close the half with a 6-3 lead.
The first four goals of the third were all scored by Marymount as they used a six-goal run for a seven-goal advantage. With 3:43 left in the frame,
Max Nice scored an unassisted goal to close out the quarter. After the Saints extended the lead early in the fourth, Kiley scored unassisted with 11:16 left. Mayrmount pulled away for good with three more goals in the last five minutes to seal the game.
Neumann ends their 2023 season with a 6-11 record.
