IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped both games of an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader at Immaculata University on Wednesday afternoon to wrap up the regular season. Scores were 5-3 and 7-4.
In game one, the Knights scored their three runs in the top of the first.
Emily Ammon led off with a single. With two outs,
Taylor Portzline walked, and Ammon advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ammon scored when
Elizabeth Shire reached on a fielders choice.
Ashlynne Scardino then hit a two-run double to score Portzline and Shire.
The Mighty Macs tied the game at three with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the third. Immaculata took a 5-3 lead with a two-run homerun in the fifth.
Scardino went 4.2 innings in the circle.
Ashley Mazzeo went the final 1.1 and allowed just one hit.
The Knights scored quickly in game two. Ammon led off with a double and scored on a double by Portzline.
Cecelia Mick singled to knock in
Maddie Tice and a 2-0 Neumann lead. Immaculata also struck quickly and plated three runs in the bottom of the first.
Down 4-2,
Cioni Simmons led off the top of the third with a single, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Simmons scored on a single by Tice. Tice came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Mick.
The Mighty Macs scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth to take back the team and take the game 7-4.
Ang Sannicandro started the game and went the first 3.0 innings. She allowed five runs, jus two earned, and struck out three.
Olivia Ammon went the next 3.0 innings and struck out four.
Neumann (12-23, 5-7 Atlantic East) heads into the postseason and will compete in Pod A at Cabrini beginning on Friday. The Knights will face Gwynedd Mercy in their first game beginning at 2:00 PM.
