Women’s Basketball Downs Eastern

St. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team went to the holiday break on a high-note as they upended Eastern University in a non-conference game on Tuesday night by a final score of 63-42.

After giving up the first bucket, Neumann scored nine of the next 11 points for a five-point lead with 5:21 left in the first. From there, both teams traded baskets over the rest of the quarter and the Knights took a 13-9 lead into the second. Once again, Eastern notched the first points in the next quarter but the Knights took off for a 12-0 run, keyed by a Lauren Klieber three-pointer, making it a 13-point lead with 5:52 left in the half. The Eagles picked up a free throw, but Neumann again would counter with the next five points, and eight of the next 13, making it a 15-point game at the half.

The Eagles got off to a strong start in the third quarter thanks to an 8-4 run in a low-scoring first six minutes of the period. The Knights followed with nine straight points over the last three minutes and only an Eastern layup at the buzzer would end the run with Neumann lead by 18. Over the first 6:24 of the fourth, Neumann extended their advantage to 31 with a 15-2 run to pull away for good. Although the Eagles scored 12 of the last 14 points of the game, they could not get any closer.

Emily DuPont led the Knights offensive attack with 16 points. Klieber nabbed a double-double with a 15-point, 11 rebound performance. She also added a career-high five blocks. Aubrie Breisblatt contributed on both sides of the court with 11 points and a career-high five steals.

Neumann (7-4) will return from the Christmas break on Friday, December 27th when they travel to Bronx, N.Y. to take part in the Lehman College Holiday Tournament. They battle the hosts starting at 2:00 PM.
