Men’s Lacrosse Wins Season Opener

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team took down Drew University, 10-8, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.
 
It took both teams some time to warm up but at the 9:21 mark Brendan Boschi got Neumann started for a 1-0 lead. Over the last 7:55 over the first, Drew rattled off four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. 2:17 into the second, Emmett Wexler ended the Rangers run. Luke Sykes scored an unassisted goal at the 10:50 mark before, Boschi tied the game with 2:29 left in the half, knotting the game at four after 30 minutes of play.
 
1:17 into the third, Renzo Garone gave the Knights the lead, and they didn't look back. A minute and a half later, Gannon McKee opened his 2024 account and at the 3:10 mark Boschi grabbed the hat trick for a three goal Neumann lead. Drew ended the Knights run with 81 seconds left in the third. That ended six-goal stretch for Neumann.
 
Early in the fourth, the Rangers pulled within one. The Knights then went on a three-goal stretch as Boschi scored twice more, along with a goal by Garone, extending the lead to four. At the 5:41 mark, Drew scored twice in 36 seconds, but the Neumann defense held strong for the duration, sealing the win.
 
Boschi ended the game with five goals and two assists, while Garone had a two-goal performance. Boschi took a whopping 13 shots with eight on the frame of the goal. Jake Methlie led with eight ground balls and Callum Labonte caused four turnovers. Owen Avelar was strong in goal with 22 saves.
 
Neumann(1-0) will return to action on Wednesday when they host McDaniel College in another non-conference game. That matchup is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
