ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled Marymount University on Saturday afternoon at the 2024 Atlantic East Conference Championship, falling 66-48.
Terea Tourk led the Knights with 15 points, including her 1000
th career point.
Lauren Klieber netted 14.
Emily DuPont tallied 10 and
Jacqueline Wardrop added nine.
Both teams opened their respective scoring with a free throw. Klieber hit a free throw for Neumann and Tourk notched a layup as the Knights started with an early 3-0 lead. The Saints scored their free throw with 7:21 on the clock in the first. DuPont then sank a jumper-and-one for a 6-1 Neumann advantage.
With 4:39 on the clock, the Knights doubled up the Saints 10-5. Marymount scored the final 10 points of the quarter for a 15-10 lead after one.
The Knights opened the second quarter, scoring the first five points on a layup by Wardrop and a three-pointer by Klieber, to tie the game at 15. Marymount netted the next four when Tourk hit a three-pointer for a 19-18 score midway through the quarter. The Saints ended the first half on a 13-5 tun to take a 32-23 lead into halftime.
The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter, and Marymount took a 44-36 lead into the final 10 minutes. The first half of the fourth quarter was much like the third, where the team traded baskets and the Saints held between an 8-to-11 point lead.
With 5:23 left on the clock, Tourk hit a layup for her 1,000
th career point and made the score 55-45. The Saints went on to score the next 11 points to seal the win. Wardrop capped the scoring with a three-pointer in the final minute.
Neumann finishes the season 18-10 overall. The 18 wins is the most in a season under head coach
Mary Beth McNichol and the most since the 2017-18 season.
