CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neuman University softball team fell twice to close out their 2024 Spring Break trip. The lost 2-1 to Concordia College and 5-1 to Carthage College.
After a scoreless first inning against Concordia, the Cobbers got on the board in the second with a sacrifice fly. They were able to double their lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single. With one out in the bottom of the inning,
Tori Spinella singled through the left side of the infield and moved to second on an infield hit by
Cioni Simmons.
Bri Reim moved the runners up on a sacrifice bunt, then
Emily Ammon hit a pop to right, scoring Spinella on the sacrifice fly, pulling the Knights within one, but the scoring would end there.
Ashlynne Scardino suffered the loss, giving up a run on three hits and she struck out one. She's now 1-2.
In the second game of the day, Carthage scored twice in the first inning on two RBI groundouts. They added two more in the third on RBI singles and scored one in the fourth on an error. Neumann tried to comeback in the seventh when with one out,
Anaya Torres reached on a throwing error. Two batters later, Reim was hit by a hit and Simmons loaded the bases with a bunt single. Although, Torres scored on a wild pitch, that's as close as they would come.
Alyssa Celi was 2 for 3 and
Kristen Pagliaro was 2 for 4.
Courtney McKenna went two innings and gave up four runs on seven this and two walks for the loss.
Daphne Santos pitched the last four innings, only allowing an unearned run on three hits.
Neumann(4-6) will now head back north to take on Eastern University on Wednesday, March 13
th, first pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
