ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Softball team took both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Widener University by scores of 5-0 and 4-3 on Thursday afternoon, signaling their first wins over the Pride since 2013.

The first game started off slow with the first four innings going scoreless. With one out in the fifth, Kristen Pagliaro reached on a fielder's choice with Cioni Simmons making it to third on an error after earlier reaching on a fielder's choice. Pagliaro then stole second before Taylor Portzline drove in both runners. She followed by scoring on an error giving Neumann a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth, Tori Spinella reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. Emily Ammon drove her in on an RBI single to center field. She followed with a steal of second and Simmons reached on a base hit. Pagliaro sacrifice both runners over and E. Ammon scored on a wild pitch for the five-run lead.

Helping save the shutout was Elizabeth Shire making two great defensive plays late in the game. One was in the sixth to close out the inning, and the other was in the seventh with one away. After a scoreless fourth, Cecelia Mick led off the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle. Spinella then smashed a double into left, pushing Mick to third. E. Ammon tied the game up, plating both runners with a base hit into left field.

The game moved to extra innings after the sixth and seventh innings were uneventful. With the "ghost runner" on at second to start the eighth, the Pride were able to take the lead on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, E. Ammon was placed at second. Simmons tried to bunt her over to third and was able to reach second on an error, scoring E. Ammon to tie the game.
