Softball Splits with Scarlet Raptors in Home Finale

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a doubleheader with Rutgers University – Camden on Thursday afternoon in the home games finale. The Knights won game one 4-0 while the Scarlet Raptors took game two 8-4.

In game one, Olivia Ammon pitched the complete game in the circle for the shutout win. The junior allowed just five hits over 7.0 innings. Ammon, along with her sister, Emily Ammon, each had two hits in the game.

The Knights took advantage of a couple Scarlet Raptors errors in the bottom of the fourth and plated three runs. After another Rutgers-Camden error in the fifth, Neumann added another unearned run on a wild pitch for a 4-0 score.

In game two, Rutgers-Camden struck for five runs in the top of the second inning. In the third, Ashlynne Scardino hit a two-run double to get two runs back. The Scarlet Raptors answered with one run in the top of the fourth.

In the fifth, Taylor Portzline walked to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Alyssa Celi. Celi scored on a sacrifice fly by Kristen Pagliaro to pull within two, 6-4. The Scarlet Raptors added two more runs in the sixth for an 8-4 score.
