ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 70-63 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
Aubrie Breisblatt led the Knights with 20 points.
Emily DuPont added 18 points and seven rebounds.
Lindsay Holden netted 12 points and
Bri Gautier tallied 10.
The game came down to an extra five minutes, after being tied at 60 after regulation. The teams traded the first two baskets to remain tied until 1:45 on the clock. The Griffins made 1-for-2 from the free throw line for a one-point advantage. Breisblatt connected on a jumper for a 64-63 lead with 1:24 left in the first overtime. DuPont went 4-for-4 from the free throw line and Holden hit 2-of-2 in the final 24 seconds for the Knights to get the win, 60-63.
Gwynedd Mercy took an early 7-2 lead. With 2:23 left in the first quarter, a three-pointer by Holden put Neumann up 14-12. The Knights went on a run to end the quarter and led 20-14.
The Griffins opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 22. The teams traded baskets until halftime. A jumper by
Jenna Aponik gave the Knights a 30-29 edge at the half.
The second half was close throughout, with the largest lead for either team being four. A jumper by Breisblatt with 29 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 60 and sent the game to overtime.
Neumann (11-7, 3-2 Atlantic East) will head to Penn State Abington on Thursday evening for a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 PM.
